Menuki

This tiny (ca 2cm long) metal curving is a menuki of a Japanese sword made in the Edo Period. Menuki is a decorated cover of the hilt thirl of the Japanese traditional sword. The curving is a sitting fugure of Gama (toad) Tekkai, in Japanese, or Hama Tiegue, in Chinese, who is a imaginary Taoist frequetly appears with a toad in Chinese and Japanese paintings. A toad is sitting on the left hand of Tekkai of the Menuki.

Greetings

Collection of anything with the shape of the frog and toad is my hobby.

The first is a tinny (ca. 2cm long) wooden frog with a bell. I got this in a woodcurving shop at Shibiamata Taishakuten, Tokyo.
